CORTIGgIAS de Lotzorai

Every year at the end of May

The eagerly awaited event is part of the Spring in the Heart of Sardinia initiative, organized by the Nuoro Chamber of Commerce and ASPEN – Special Agency of the Nuoro Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the participating municipalities.

The event, celebrating tradition and flavor, warmly welcomes visitors to the courtyards set up in the town’s historic center. It’s an opportunity to experience ancient traditions and local flavors.

“Cortiggias de Lotzorai” is an event that encompasses the entire historic center. The festively decorated courtyards, patios, and loggias will offer hospitality and opportunities to taste and purchase typical local food products: traditional roasts and recipes featuring local pork and mutton. Fried foods and traditional dishes featuring shrimp, squid, octopus, and other fish from the gulf nearby. Ricotta and fresh and aged cheeses will also be available. Lots of wine, especially Cannonau, will be available, along with genuine olive oil, fragrant honey, and almond and candied fruit sweets. Other courtyards will carefully display handcrafted items created by local artisans and artists. On display will be baskets, knives, terracotta, and everyday objects, revisited and crafted with skill and passion.

The highlight of the Cortiggias festival is always the Feast of San Sebastiano, where sacredness and faith combine with tradition, preserving an event that deeply unites our community. On Saturday, the eagerly awaited performance of “Sa Coja Antiga Lotzoraesa” will be repeated, transporting us to the past of our tradition, with the wedding ritual performed in all its phases by participants dressed in precious traditional costumes. Visitors can admire the exhibition-museum of Sardinian Lotzoraese costumes, curated by Giampaolo Murru.

The preview of the festival is the collateral event “Merenda nell’Oliveta”.

Another highlight is the guided tour of the Church of Sant’Elena Imperatrice and the opening of the Parish Museum of Ancient and Modern Artistic Heritage in the adjacent rooms.

Sa COJA ANTIGA

The highlight of this year’s festival is Sa Coja antiga lotzoraesa, a revival of an ancient ritual that involved the entire Lotzorai community. This choral event is still performed today, wearing the precious costumes and ornaments of the period.

A journey into the past, amidst hope, faith, prosperity, and a love of family values, involving the community and visitors alike.
