Lotzorai is a “small” coastal town in central-eastern Sardinia in the Ogliastra region. The town, of medieval origin, rises between two rivers at the centre of a natural “amphitheatre” formed by the massif of Monte Oro and overlooks the splendid Ogliastra sea with its 6 km of beach, a well-established summer tourist destination.
In the centre of the gulf in fronto of the beaches stands majestically, the Islet of Ogliastraa paradisiacal archipelago for sea lovers, with its granite rocks covered in rich vegetation and inhabited by numerous animal species. A rich, unspoilt marine environment, ideal for lovers of snorkeling and boating.
Lotzorai is divided into the historical districts of Cuccureddu and Donigala. Two kilometres away is the seaside hamlet of Tancau. A natural environment of great value enriched by archaeological and historical evidence, capable of arousing the interest of the most curious tourists.

Punics, Romans, Pisans and Aragonese have contended for centuries over “the place of almond blossoms” since the 6th century BC. Each has ruled and left a small testimony in this pearl of the Mediterranean inhabited since the Copper Age.
The protection of the Gennargentu mountains and the clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea have enabled the inhabitants of Lotzorai to preserve a life still on a human scale. Thus the typical products and the recipes that enhance them have been handed down intact with all the authenticity of the ancient flavours that can still be tasted in the area's tables and restaurants.

The many events throughout the year culminate at the end of May with “Cortiggias de Lotzorai”. Part of the event< wpml_nbsp >Spring in the Heart of Sardinia, it is an event dedicated to tradition and taste in the courtyards of the old town.
There are many scientists, geneticists, researchers, anthropologists and journalists who have been coming to the Barbagie and Ogliastra for decades with the same objective: to study the mystery, the formula, the elixir of the Sardinian ultracentenarian.
This is why Ogliastra is among the 5 Blue Zones with the highest life expectancy in the world.
Certainly food, healthy places and lifestyle are part of the much sought-after elixir. In Lotzorai, three ultracentenarian women currently live out of a population of around 2,200.
