Lotzorai, uncontaminated magic

Lotzorai sparkles with natural light that changes throughout the day and the seasons. From the intense blue of the sea and sky, in all its hues from dawn to dusk, to the lush green of the landscape, enriched by the waters of the two rivers that surround it, to the shades of yellow and red that the sun bestows upon us, and finally to the ochre of the historical remains scattered throughout the area.

The region to which Lotzorai belongs, Ogliastra, is pure magic. A place of enchanting beauty, located along the eastern coast of Sardinia, in a natural amphitheater between the peaks of the Gennargentu and the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is considered one of the most evocative and unspoiled places on the island. A land rich in natural monuments, pristine beaches, and trails for trekking, mountain biking, and climbing.

This Sardinian paradise is one of five “Blue Zones” in the world, where life expectancy is higher than in the rest of the planet.

The municipality of Lotzorai covers 17 square kilometers, with a population of approximately 2,200. It is surrounded by two rivers: the Pramaera and the Girasole, which make this vast area fertile and rich in wetlands of considerable natural importance and beauty.

Lotzorai is a well-established tourist destination, attracting visitors primarily for its beautiful beaches that stretch along a 6 km coastline bordered by crystal-clear waters, highlighted by the Isolotto d’Ogliastra. The Lotzorai area exudes a wild atmosphere, which retains all its charm even on the most popular beaches.

THE BEACHES OF LOTZORAI

Five beaches to discover

Lotzorai boasts a long sandy beach that extends for about 5 km from the Tortolì lagoon in the south to Santa Maria Navarrese further north.

The long, clear, golden beach, easily accessible from the town, is interrupted only by the estuaries of two rivers: the Rio Girasole and the Pramaera. In the summer season, when the rivers’ flow decreases, the entire coastline is accessible on foot. Along this stretch of coast, each beach has a different name. Starting from the south: Isula Manna, Iscrixedda, Marina Delle Rose or Lido delle Rose, Pollu, Tancau.

It’s curious how the view of the outline of the Ogliastra Island breaking the sea horizon appears different depending on which beach you reach.

Even the characteristics of the ecosystem, from the shoreline to the back-dune system, present small differences from kilometer to kilometer, offering pleasant discoveries for those who want to take a long walk along the beach.

TO SEE

Lido delle Rose
Lido delle Rose, or Is Orrosas, is the wide central beach on Lotzorai's long coastline. The beating heart of Lotzorai's seaside scene, this beach is popular with young people as well as families with children. The thick, fragrant pine forest behind it offers pleasant refreshment options.
Spiaggia di Pollu
Less well-known than the other beaches along the Lotzorai coastline, Pollu Beach is large and characterized by the mouth of the Pramaera River. The canals are of particular interest due to the presence of various species of birds typical of marshland vegetation.
Spiaggia di Tancau
Tancau is the northern shore of Lotzorai's long coastline. The sandy beach is bordered to the north by red porphyry rocks, the same ones found on the nearby Isola dell'Ogliastra. There are several bars and pizzerias, two campsites, pedal boat and dinghy rentals, diving equipment, and a camper area.
Spiaggia Iscrixedda
The beach is the continuation of the long Lido delle Rose beach and is bordered to the south by the Isula Manna beach. Cooled by a beautiful pine forest, it is the ideal place to spend relaxing days by the sea. Thanks to the new access to the sea, it has become one of the most popular beaches in Lotzorai.
Spiaggia di Isula Manna
The beach is the southernmost stretch of coastline along the long coastline of the Municipality of Lotzorai, and is separated to the west by the Su Stoargiu canal, which creates a veritable island. This beach's distinctive feature is the presence of a lush pine forest, perfect for picnics.
Isolotto d’Ogliastra
You will be fascinated by this islet of porphyry and granite, a symbol of Ogliastra, once a legendary shelter during navigation, now a destination for boat trips, where you can admire its crystal-clear seabed, Mediterranean scrub vegetation, and the birds that inhabit it.
