Lotzorai sparkles with natural light that changes throughout the day and the seasons. From the intense blue of the sea and sky, in all its hues from dawn to dusk, to the lush green of the landscape, enriched by the waters of the two rivers that surround it, to the shades of yellow and red that the sun bestows upon us, and finally to the ochre of the historical remains scattered throughout the area.
The region to which Lotzorai belongs, Ogliastra, is pure magic. A place of enchanting beauty, located along the eastern coast of Sardinia, in a natural amphitheater between the peaks of the Gennargentu and the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is considered one of the most evocative and unspoiled places on the island. A land rich in natural monuments, pristine beaches, and trails for trekking, mountain biking, and climbing.
This Sardinian paradise is one of five “Blue Zones” in the world, where life expectancy is higher than in the rest of the planet.
The municipality of Lotzorai covers 17 square kilometers, with a population of approximately 2,200. It is surrounded by two rivers: the Pramaera and the Girasole, which make this vast area fertile and rich in wetlands of considerable natural importance and beauty.
Lotzorai is a well-established tourist destination, attracting visitors primarily for its beautiful beaches that stretch along a 6 km coastline bordered by crystal-clear waters, highlighted by the Isolotto d’Ogliastra. The Lotzorai area exudes a wild atmosphere, which retains all its charm even on the most popular beaches.
Lotzorai boasts a long sandy beach that extends for about 5 km from the Tortolì lagoon in the south to Santa Maria Navarrese further north.
The long, clear, golden beach, easily accessible from the town, is interrupted only by the estuaries of two rivers: the Rio Girasole and the Pramaera. In the summer season, when the rivers’ flow decreases, the entire coastline is accessible on foot. Along this stretch of coast, each beach has a different name. Starting from the south: Isula Manna, Iscrixedda, Marina Delle Rose or Lido delle Rose, Pollu, Tancau.
It’s curious how the view of the outline of the Ogliastra Island breaking the sea horizon appears different depending on which beach you reach.
Even the characteristics of the ecosystem, from the shoreline to the back-dune system, present small differences from kilometer to kilometer, offering pleasant discoveries for those who want to take a long walk along the beach.
