Whale Watching

ON THE CETACEANS' ROUTE ALONG THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA

In spring, it’s not uncommon to spot the large silhouettes of whales around the islet, often with their calves in tow. Attracted by food carried by the currents rising from the deep, these large mammals simply swim slowly, revealing their silhouettes and large tails.

At the same time, dolphins, gathered in pods, leap repeatedly, seeming to be an eternally playful species, while in reality, they are engaged in more serious activities such as hunting or mating.

DOLPHINS!!!

Whale encounters often occur between March and May, but dolphins can easily be spotted year-round.

If you’re armed with binoculars, in addition to these agile mammals, not far from the island of Ogliastra, you can also spot large pelagic fish such as tuna and swordfish. The presence of these predators is signaled by the presence of flocks of gulls and shearwaters.
