Water Sports

Above or below the sea, it's always a wonderful adventure.

During the summer season, the Lotzorai coastline is less windy than other parts of the island. Long periods of high pressure and resulting calm seas favor paddleboarding, such as canoes, kayaks, and SUPs. High pressure generally brings light breezes. Stronger winds (sea breezes) can occur during the hours when the sun is highest, then calm down at sunset and, at night, swing 180° and bring in a land breeze. However, for short periods, stronger winds, such as the Mistral or the Grecale, can blow.

While calm seas are a favorite for paddlers, a breeze is coveted by those who use wind energy for recreational activities such as kitesurfing, windsurfing, and small sailing dinghies. There are several landing lanes along the entire coastline, and every enthusiast of their sport should familiarize themselves with the safety regulations and the rules issued by each Port Authority (the competent authority for this stretch of sea is Arbatax) through ordinances available online. They should also consult specialized marine weather websites.

SEA POV

A few hundred meters from the shoreline, the view of the hinterland changes significantly, revealing, behind the lush pine forest that lines each stretch of beach, the mountainous amphitheater dotted with small hill and mountain villages. Kilometers of sandy coastline and the nearby island of Ogliastra offer unforgettable tackling or relaxing paddles, gliding across a crystal-clear sea.

Local accommodations and beach businesses can provide information and support to ensure your excursions are more safe and convenient.
